Description

The primary objective of the guided tour is to present the Ambrosiana collection starting from the thought and life of its founder, Federico Borromeo. The Library and the Art Gallery are his creatures; while still alive, the Cardinal collected one of the richest book and art collections of the seventeenth century. Inside the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the first art museum in the world open to the public, as well as precious Flemish and Lombard and Venetian Renaissance paintings, works of great importance are analysed, such as the magnificent preparatory Cartoon for the School of Athens by Raphael , Caravaggio's Basket of Fruit, Leonardo's Musician and Codex Atlanticus.
